Mileage: 100 miles (162 kms)

Elevation Change: 2900 feet  (884 meters)

Weather: cloudy, cool, sprinkles, TAILWINDS

Morale:  excellent

Incidents: took a wrong turn so road a century

Daily Summary:

Centuries are never easy, but his one seemed easier than most.  We were rolling at 6:30 am in the light rain as the sun came up in Mountain Home.  We took a wrong turn a few miles down the road, which insured we would go over 100 miles today.  (Who plans rides for 97 miles anyway!?)  You can see the wrong turn on the GPS track.  The ride today was beautiful.  We passed through some very remote country on very little used roads.  We had a nice tailwind all day which made for fast riding.  There were no significant climbs—the elevation gain shown above was all very gradual.  In the last part of the ride, we passed through miles and miles of feeding lots and stockyards for cattle.  Twin Falls is right on the Snake River Gorge, famous for Evil Kneivel ‘s attempt to jump over it when I was in high school.  The bridge over it that goes into town is famous among BASE jumpers (folks who parachute from fixed objects).  Ray and I had a great ride.  Christopher had a good day himself.  He was very happy when we got back, and had carried all our bags up to the room for us.  The hotel pool today is the best one we’ve had, so Chris and I went for a swim.  Ray couldn’t get up the energy.

In the pictures below you see sunrise over Mountain Home, the sun peaking below the rain clouds.  Next are some Snake River shots.  Finally, the bridge into town.

Tomorrow we have a very easy day—less than 40 miles.  (The distances in this part of the country are driven by where the towns/hotels are.  Very remote!)  We hope we can get Christopher to join us again.
